Written Words
In my search, per homework from my blog coach, Mike Sansone, I came across some very interesting stuff. One I want to share today is found on Ted.com.
Lakshmi Pratury is covering the topic of letters as it pertains to her beloved now deceased father. (I actually came across this by first checking out Annette Clancy's site.)
The segment really hits home with me on a few levels.
1. I'm a letter writer and was trained to be one (writing thank you notes were taught and expected in our household).
2. I agree that letters written - and saved - are, as Lakshmi calls it, a Value Legacy - what you leave behind (vs. a financial legacy for example). I like that idea very much.
3. Letter writing is underrated and underutilized. It's a huge tool for personal and professional reasons.
4. While I don't believe it's a dying art, I know that it has significantly lost weight - weight that needs to be put back on.
It's such an easy thing - writing. A simple, gentle, thoughtful, kind gesture. Yet we take it for granted and write waaaaaay less than we (society as a whole) used to. I think it lends to better manners too...
So my challenge to you today is to sit down, get comfortable and write 1-3 notes, letters or even postcards to someone who could use the contact. Someone who makes you smile, that you're thinking of as you read this, someone who could use a boost.
Writing is a great way to connect - as it connects you with you and with the person you're reaching out to.
